We are collecting all the theories together to try and work out how Derren Brown predicted the National Lottery. All ideas discussed on here – the ones with the most posts getting higher numbers – hopefully we can work out how he did it before tomorrow!
Theory 1 – you decide!

Theory 2 – Film all possible outcomes
September 10, 2009DB had filmed all the possible outcomes and the films were cleverly spliced together at the last minute. He said he had been working on this for a year, well that is why. It would take a year to film each ending then cut it in.
Theory 3 – Wiggling balls
September 10, 2009It was all a camera trick with a still in place and then at the right point it is cut to a live version where the balls had been set up. You can see the balls wiggle in the footage and they aren’t lined up at one point.
Theory 4 – projected numbers
September 10, 2009The balls were blank and the numbers were projected on to them from a projector behind the second camera either that or there is a computer projection over the numbers.
Theory 5 – The insider
September 10, 2009Derren Brown had somebody working inside the national lottery who texted him the numbers just before. There is a delay of 5 minutes from the transmission to when it actually reaches peoples TV’s – DB’s TV showed what you see but the actual draw happened 5 mins before.
Theory 6 – golden formula
September 10, 2009There is a formula to work it out and there is a formula to crack the numbers. All systems can be broken if you work on them enough. A year would be about the right time to do this. Why else would he say he will “show us” on Friday?
Theory 7 – Time Travel
September 10, 2009Derren is a time traveller. Everyone knows this consider this a warning, soon he will take over the world and make us all his minions.
Theory 8 – Hiding his balls
September 10, 2009The balls were hiding behind the card and you can see Derren doing something with his left hand during the numbers falling down. He performs a clever quick switch at some point where he has set up them in his sleeve or jacket. Look carefully at his clothing and you can see hit jacket arm move awkwardly.
Theory 9 – Mass hypnosis
September 10, 2009The numbers aren’t those numbers we all just believe him through some sort of mass hypnosis in the press – didn’t you see the metro cover?
Theory 10 – bribery.
September 10, 2009Who cares how he did it? Camelot were bribed or manipulated by Brown. He’s already robbed a security van, stop this man now!!!
